Among many people who live in Kuching, I am probably the last person on earth going to Serikin. People in Kuching have been talking about going to Serikin because it is a popular shopping centre made of Indonesians vendors (They come all the way from Indonesia to sell things here, in Kuching). In Serikin, we will only find Indonesian goods. When I ask some people who have been there, I received two different feedbacks.
1st : It is a good place for shopping because the items there are cheap.
2nd: It is not worth buying things there because they are charging things the same price as Malaysia products.
Whatever the feedback is, I think it is still worth going there, if it is not for shopping but for an eye opener. It is part of attractions in Kuching.

Personally, I think it's always better to experience things for yourself because you will then own the experience. I like to buy things direct from the makers of products because one, it's cheaper since there is no middle man cost added onto the product and two, you really help support the ethnic people that actually make the stuff. Those mats in your picture are about $30-$50 USD.
waahhh sik sabar kamek nak ke serikin :) another 2 weeks huhuuuu
shopping centre? open air? now dat
's something...
Sightseeing would be worth the experience... but I believe both the opinions you got could be because of two different background people. Maybe to someone like me from KL, where everything is quite costly might find that the things are reasonable priced.
But for someone from Ipoh, or maybe Sibu might think "same price what.." hehee so it is best to go ourselves and see :).
dah lama sik pergi sia. Ini cerita lama, sidak penguatkuasa selalu tunggu di simpang.. pernah mek beli beras banyak (harga murah).. so kena soal siasat. kita beli dlm negara kita empun mun nak cukai kena sik cukai sida nok jual. Ginek tok mungkin sik ada gik gia.
Yah... Akhirnya, sampei juak u ke Serikin tek ;-)

Nice shots and reflection..
Are those floor mats spread on the road? I'm sure there are plenty of batik's for sale in Serikin.
Yes, I agree with you. Don't mind the critics but the personal visit. Lovely pictures!
It sounds interesting. I think I would want to see for myself.
Still, it's nice to visit and check out what those vendors are selling even though M'sians have such products too.
shopping center..err..better call 'Pasar'.
I hv been there 4 yrs back..tht time the pasar was open daily not sure since when they only open on weekend only.
Its a long journey from Kuching to reach Serikin. But for me it worth.. I can still remember where my famiy member crazy buying the mats. They oso provide shipping service. Including tht, it still cheap.
