Serian District

Yes! Serian town (my hometown) is raped of its beauty. Many years ago, this town was awarded as the most beutiful town in Sarawak and also the best public toilet in Sarawak. But today, it has become crowded, dirty and hawkers start to operate their businesses at parking lots. I have seen a burger seller, told a driver to park somewhere else, just because that driver park on his parking space (for selling burger). Does he has the right? Other hawkers even leave their stalls on the parking lot. It is really frustrating that every weekend, whenever I go to town, I will hardly find a parking space. When people park illegally (out of desperation) the traffic police will come and summon them. Too bad.. Serian has been raped. Someone got to do something about this.

Look at how stalls have conquered the parking space. They have reduced the space by 50%.

Its current main attraction is the Serian pasar tani. Best in town ive seen so far, beats the Satok anytime, and it's a lot cheaper too. Esp the kacang tanah. Downside? yeah, parking sucks.

Mama > the petrol stations there always out of petrol during weekends. I heard in the radio today saying that the operator's license will be withdrawn if they are always out of petrol.

One other > parking fine is RM300.

I wonder if the municipal or the district council doing anything about it.Indiscrimate parkings are common sights even in major towns.

Hamidah> it makes me wonder too. I was told that, removing the stalls are complicated. Not sure of what's the complication about.

i remember serian of 20 years ago. serene, quite and tranquil. a transit point before entering kuching or before leaving for remote sri aman, sarikei, sibu etc, etc. those days traffic was slow and not heavy like it is today.

now with good roads and highway all the way to miri, the scenario has changed. more people pass by serian. business is thriving and with it comes the perils of development.

yes, i think the town council can do something. build better infrastructures and business facilities. serian must always be known for its ranchan fall rather than be overshadowed by its chaotic town.

good luck!

Abg Sardon. 20 years ago was quite long. The town is too crowded now. I am always not in favour going to Serian esp Weekends.
