Don't Celebrate X'Mas!

"Don't celebrate X'mas!" That's what my priest said almost every year. I've been reading newspaper and "X'mas" keep on appearing in the news, be it in the form of advertisement or a write up. Well don't misunderstand my priest. He's a noble and knowledgeable person that I have ever met.
He is against people using the word "X'mas" because people simply throw away the precious word for Christian "CHRIST". Christmas is celebrated to mark the birth of Christ. But, the word "X"? My priest continued by saying...

X = means nothing.
X = means after such as my x-girlfriend, x-classmate
X = means not known.

My priest said, people are commercializing Christmas and worst still, by making it X'mas, they are implying that, it's not a Christian celebration but merely an end year celebration. I think the media should stop promoting the word X'mas.

So what are we celebrating? In England, people still respect the word "Christmas". They will not use the word X'mas. I agree with him. Therefore, people in our church have never celebrated X'mas but Christmas and we will never put or hang banners with X'mas.

I totally agree that noble word like Christmas should be held in respect and not improperly shorten to suit one's convenience.

Believe me... Christmas is for everybody, for muslim and for hindu as well. During Hari Raya Aidilfitri, 'they' start having their holiday one week BEFORE and one week AFTER hari raya. And the notis will come out "Bagi sesiapa yang tidak merayakan Hari Raya, sebarang permohonan cuti tidak akan diluluskan, bagi mengelakkan tiada kakitangan di pejabat". OK, fine.

Then, a month before Christmas, a bundle of holiday application form are submitted, believe me 'they' apply holiday 2 days BEFORE and one week AFTER Christmas. Only MINORITY of them are Christian.

Don't believe me? It happen in every department in MALASia. I think 'they' just thinking that Christmas is all about Santa Clause, Christmas tree, present, and twinkle twinkle little star. Never mind, 'they' celebrate Jesus birthday in other way. I think we will see other religion joining the Christmas eve prayer in every single church in MALAYsia soon.

I will have to respect his opinion as he feels strongly about it.....but its also what is in the heart that matters - to the extent that we start boycotting shopping complexes that have the X'mas signs. That would be taking it a step to far would it not? :)

agree hat people should not change Christmas to Xmas.

I also am in opinion that on the Christmas National Open house, the 'real Chrismas songs' should be allowed to play.

Unlike Gawai, Christmas is a religious celebration. Its Hari Raya Aidilfitri/Deepavali/Wesak Day for us Christians.

Thanks everybody for your support on going against the word X'mas. Let us take end year holiday, and at the same time celebrate Christmas, for christians.

Hey, that's exactly what I have been trying to tell all my other friends who wish me "Merry Xmas!" i tell them to spell it out becoz Xmas means no Christmas, the same as there's no Christmas without Christ. I guess some just dont know any better huh. Thanks for sharing my thoughts.

Merry Christmas in advance!

There are more things to worry about in this world than how the word 'christmas' is spelled. Let us focus our energy on spreading the true spirit and joy of the season, and not on funneling resentment and negativity over something so minute.

On Other > Yep Merry Christmas.
Anonymous > I guess u missed out the point here. It's not about spelling. It's more than that. It's about how some irresponsible people want Christians to forget the real meaning of CHristmas and y they are celebrating it.

anon: (why are this people are so scared to reveal themselves)

willie is right. it is not about the spelling. it is about the real meaning of christmas (I can hear duh! somewhere). There is no resentment intended in the Father's preach if you really look at it, but to get the Christian to understand what Christmas is about, and why Jesus Christ himself is the centre of Christmas celebration. We do not condemn people who are celebrating Christmas because it means holiday.. so be it.

When it etched into one's heart of the true meaning however, one'll be able to look at Christmas in a different angle.

not that i am trying to preach, im not good enough for that, but everyday is a learning process, and I'm sure glad to be stand corrected..
