Tips on Night Shots : Kuching Waterfront

Taking night shots are challenging. Some people thought that I take good photos. The fact is, I only select good photos from my shots and the rest of my shots are actually poor. Last night, I went to Kuching Waterfront to see whether I can take good shots at night. What you see below probably good photos, but actually there are some weaknesses. Allow me to share with you guys, what to consider when taking photos.

First : Photos are best taken between 5pm to 7pm. Not too bright, not too dark.

Secondly : Look at the photos below. What's the problem? Distraction! The cars, cons and the rubbish bins distract the beauty of this photo. When taking photos, be sure to remove all the possible distractions or find a suitable location.

Thirdly: Do not shoot directly to the light. Not only it may damage your lense, it also becomes another distraction to this photo.

Fourthly : The image is too dark. You can't see the details of the roof/upper part of the canopy.

Fifthly : Wrong Angle. The open theater below display many wires, cables and spotlights which distract the beauty of the theater. Try to find better angle that hide all these cables, wires and spotlights.

Finally: Too much of empty space. You hardly see the buildings and the sky and the floor looks black. In taking good photos, try to put your subject in full frame. Avoid empty spaces.

BigGirL > Sgt suker. Minat bergambar ni perlu dipupuk.

SiPenconteng > That's what i mean. They might look nice but then, they have some defects.

ElCynthia > Yes. DSLR lenses are sensitive and need to be protected. Most photogrpahers will put UV protector on their lenses, esp. to protect the lense from the Sun UV.

i always have my uv filter fitted to my lens, unless going out for the super sunshiny day, tukar to polarizer. polarizer prevents reflection/glow from glasses/water.

kira mok ambik gambar barang underwater, use polarizer filter so object underwater ya nampak. tok baca jak lah lom coba gik.

anyway thanks for your tips !! bfore snap a picture diat bebenar lok surrounding. pro photographer nang tere lah candid pa smua.

i have problems adjusting the ISO, Aperture & sometime the shutter speed.

Willie a.k.a Reptoz said...

KukuGadong > aku pun blom pro agi adjust benda ya semua. Masih belajar dari a few people.
