Macro Shot Busted

In the world of photography, there are no boundaries of what you wish to capture. But as for me, I won't be able to do a macro shot yet because I do not have a macro lense.

Doing a macro shot is not easy as we think. I know there are many digital cameras sold out there that offer macro function. However, it has a limitation as compared to a DSLR with a macro lense. If you observe the macro shot I took below, it might seems nice but there are a few weaknesses;

1. The background is still too obvious. You cannot really see the bee.

2. The bee is showing its back. It is better if we can see its face and the legs.

3. The bee is lack of detail. You cannot see the fur and the wings clearly.

This photo is taken using my standard lense (18-55mm Nikon). Therefore, when shooting a moving macro object, you need to really have to wait patiently for the bee to position itself nicely and use a macro lense. If you would like to see a good photo of a bee, click here.

I agree with you saying that macro shot is not easy. I bought a macro lens last year but I haven't really gone deep with it because not only that lens doesn't have any stabilizer, I also need a sturdy tripod (at least a monopod) and an additional cable release to add to the capabilities to take macro shots. but This month I'm really into macro shots as I've learned some new technics from a friends and I will posted some of that shots soon on my photoblog www.rodznocturne.com . I will also share a "cheaper" way to do macro photography :)

Anyway, U got lots of nice photo here man, like it all :)

You sure have the patient to wait for the right angle to take the bee's pic. I mean, come on, it's bee and it's super fast. Gotta give you the credit you deserve..

I know nothing abt DSLR, and thus I can't comment much..

I looked at the other Flickr picture compared to yours and I see what you are explaining. What a huge difference! I think ordinary people who do know much about photography wouldn't know much difference in cameras or lenses. I learned something new from you today.

I like the caption "I see, I capture, I blog".

Did you shoot using the macro mode in your camera? Macro lenses are expensive. I don't own one either. I have yet to try out the macro mode on my camera. One of these days, I should experiment but I know the results will not be as good compared to shooting with a macro lens. Tamron's 90mm is a more affordable alternative to Canon's 100mm f/2.8L.

pa lagik bro.. beli tanrom Sp90 2.8 atau apa2 brand 70-200mm Macro 3.5ke atas..

Rodz Nocturne said...

I've bought the Tamrom SP90 2.8 last year and it cost me about RM1350 but I only "play" with it in the few days after I bought it and until now haven't got a chance to go really deep with it. The cons is, it doesn't have stabilizer but it is really a good affordable lens. I think a good macro shots require one part of lens and two part of skills and technics, even with standard lens can be done greatly (like that bee picture you shot). About the cheaper way of using the close up filter, I've bought Hoya +2 (over RM100) and the result quiet good but it can be really technical.

Rodz :Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi, paying you a mutual visit! Nice blog you have here, you must be a professional photographer (like the picture you have taken).

The organic products must be pricey compared to those we can get over the pharmacy counter right?

Please have a nice day!
