For lunch, we decided to find a new place to eat, tired of the usual one. Fortunately for us, the food court, C121, Stutong has just opened. So we happily walked and ate in.
I ordered plain water, refrained myself for sweet drinks, and got the receipt, "SKY JUICE".
"sky Juice"? Since when does it become a new name to plain water? The term sky juice, which refers to plain water is no standard English. You will not find it in any English dictionary. Such word is actually categorized as "colloquial" (Informal word).
Hahaha..Malaysian English is so beautiful. A lot of colloquialism. If Singapore has "Singlish" we definitely have "Manglish". Other common words that are considered as Manglish are "handphone" "terrer" "happening" etc. Hahahaha

modefied words can be unique and funny at the same time. how about saraglish (sarawak english) with words like "kuihcake"? and "jauh pak awi" (jauh far away)? these are just a few :)
nasib baik 'sky juice' ya 0.20 cent, if 0.50 cent like some kedai caj? kan mati keja. bagus minum air paip jak kat belakang. Btw, english is a versatile language. It can be broaden and expanded depending on the situation.
so mm... where is this place again?
Nang ada dalam resit nulis sky juice.. bagus nya engkah boiled water kah kekeke...
Nice post tok mr. willie.. lots of info.. Blog ktk now dlm senarai kmk.. :)
abg sardon > Hahaha habis habislah jahanam bhs inggeris.
One Ohter > IN thomson Corner, they charge 3o cent. I heard about 50 cent before. But where was it?
Khairul > That's the thing. If by mouth, it's okeylah. But then, they printed the word sky juice on the receipt. That's what makes it funny.
Hmm... lupak. If not JnJ, then Chillie Peppers, or was it Thyme? tapi memang gila la RM0.50. last time it was free, man.
One other > today, nothing is free. What to do? Have you gotten your stamp?
Not yet willie. no time to visit the post office, trying to finish the appraisal this week. :-(
geng, got one, if you are in KK this will be a must "cuba try", "terrer" ka tida hehehe :)
sometimes i wonder why they like that word "terrer" to describe hebat hahahaha, dia ingat ni terrorist ka ni :)
"Happening juga tempat ni"..Kalau u tak tahu maksud happening..u ni kampung girl la..That was happened to me before..Hahahaha
WOOoooo.. now i know wut sky juice mean, cuz I saw this "sky juice" on d menu but dun dare to order for it since the price is very cheap..huahua..
The first time I moved to KL for studies, my brother brought me to this mamak place. He ordered a few drinks for us and extra "Sku Juice". I was like what the? Sky Juice? What the heck is that?? I thought it was some kind of exotic fruit juice or something..
until our orders arrived and we were served with PLAIN WATER.
*sigh*
One other > Good luck in filling in your appraisal form.
Grag Chai > "Cuba try" has another term, that is "Code Switching". Other example would be "no hal".
Bb > If u check in the dictionary, happening means "kejadian" and mot "meriah". "Meriah" should be "lively" or "merrier".
Kris > THey put sky juice in the menu?
Ethel > U r not alone. My friend thought sky juice was a fruit juice. And it happened in a seafood restaurant here .We laughed like hell.
In one of my American friend's blog comment, this Malaysian friend (not me, of course!) commented : " wow, didn't know you're this SPORTING! " .... bwahahhahaa.. where got the SPORTING term in English dict.
tsk tsk... sometimes we tend to get carried too far away with our own lil world...
Dee Loner > yup. Sporting is another Manglish. Hahahha
