How to Maintain an XD Card

Little things can be hurtful sometimes. Take for example, a digital camera memory card. Last weekend, I lost my mood and appetite after I lost all the nice photos that I took in a special restaurant with my family. It is all because of my memory card that got damaged on that day. And this wasn't my first time losing a memory card. It's my third time!. Feeling distressed I talked to some of my friends who love photography. They gave me a few useful advise on how to maintain a memory card.

Now there are many types of memory card. One is called the XD Card and the other one is called the SD Card.

My XD Card. RM140 for 2GB and RM90 for 1GB, Kuching price.

Tip 1: Always keep your memory card in a special casing when it is not used. Never leave your card in the camera when it is not being used. Make sure that you take the batteries out of the camera too.

Can you see the yellow stripes?

Tip 2: Never ever touch the yellow stripes with your fingers or clean it with tissue papers. It is sensitive and easily damaged.

Tip 3: Transfer your photos from your digicam to your pc regularly. Leaving the photos inside the memory card is risky.

These are 3 advice from my friends. Some of you might have more things to say about this. Why not share with us who are Digicam dummies. Hahaha

Thanks for the tips Willie. I have one card which I believed is damaged and I have many memorable photos there. I am trying my best on finding how to retrieve it as the card reader cannot catch it. But when I put it in the old camera the photos shows up....when I wanted to transfer it via wire the camera died on me and I could not get it open again. Realy frustrating.

Desmond > Usually, if your memory card cannot be read, you won't be able to retrieve the photos. Photo retreival software will only be able to retreive lost photos due to accidental delete.

ONe other > maybe next time, once i have the info. I'm still learning though. Hehehe

Sharon > Thanks.

CalvB > Better stop doing that bad habit. Hahaha.

Sumuk > No problem mo...

Willie, I think the problem may be that you are handling the card a lot. I've got the same card and I've never removed it from the card as I use the camera cord/cable to download my pictures. I've never inserted the card into my PC slot. Instead I have the cord permanently connected to the PC.

Ssembonge > the problem was, it damaged eventhough i didn't remove it. Hmmm.. could it be those cards are fake?
